Assessing Technical Writing in Institutional Contexts: Using Outcomes-Based Assessment for Programmatic Thinking.
Carter, Michael; Anson, Chris M.; Miller, Carolyn R.
Technical Communication Quarterly, v12 n1 p101-14 Win 2003
Notes that technical writing instruction often operates in isolation from other components of students' communication education. Argues for altering this isolation by moving writing instruction to a place of increased programmatic perspective, which may be attained through a means of assessment based on educational outcomes. Discusses two models of technical writing instruction - centralized and diffused. (PM)
