"Just Multiculturalism": Teaching Writing as Critical and Ethical Practice.
Grobman, Laurie
JAC: A Journal of Composition Theory, v22 n4 p815-45 Fall 2002
Argues for what the author calls "just multiculturalism," which holds justice rather than tolerance or difference as multiculturalism's first principle, as one path to consider a way out of the relativist trap. Notes that in the classroom, just multiculturalism encourages students to engage in cross-cultural understanding, judgment, critique, and dialogue, and can provide students with a more critical and nuanced understanding of the egalitarian aims of multiculturalism.
