Developing national standards for school nurse competencies can influence professional practice, student wellbeing, and achievement. Collaboration between national experts is key. Closely aligning work of the Southern Regional Education Board Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing on entry-level competencies with the "Standards of Professional School Nursing Practice" provides guiding framework. Continued competency development offers guidance for academic programs that prepare school nurses and for practice settings that hire them. (SM)
