Demographics, Parenting, and Theory of Mind in Preschool Children.
Pears, Katherine C.; Moses, Louis J.
Social Development, v12 n1 p1-20 2003
This research examined associations among demographic variables, parenting strategies, and a theory-of-mind battery including measures of perception, desire, belief, and emotion understanding in preschoolers. After controlling for children's cognitive ability and age, regression analyses found that maternal education related positively with children's perception understanding. Power assertion related negatively with belief understanding, but positively with emotion understanding. Use of consequences in response to child misbehaviors negatively related to emotion understanding. (Author/KB)
