Discusses how the reality of the classroom can be overwhelming for a new teacher, especially if there is dissonance between a new teacher's professional ideals and that of the existing educational environment. Lists ways to encourage development of National Council of Teachers of English student affiliate sites and to strengthen existing student affiliate sites as a way of supporting preservice teachers.
