Phonological Deficit and the Reliance on Orthographic Approximation for Reading: A Follow-Up Study on an English-Japanese Bilingual with Monolingual Dyslexia.
Wydell, Taeko N.; Kondo, Tadahisa
Journal of Research in Reading, v26 n1 p33-48 Feb 2003
Discusses the case of "AS," an English-Japanese bilingual man with monolingual phonological dyslexia in English. Presents a follow-up study that demonstrates that AS is truly a phonological dyslexic in English, and that a phonological deficit is still a good diagnostic indicator for identifying developmental phonological dyslexia in English. Concludes that whatever the neurological abnormality that AS may have, this only affects certain languages, and this abnormality persists with time. (SG)
