Enhancing Content Areas through a Cognitive Academic Language Learning Based Collaborative in South Texas.
Montes, Felix
Bilingual Research Journal, v26 n3 p697-716 Fall 2002
Based on the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach, the Content Area Program Enhancement (CAPE) model fosters a collaborative environment among teachers and administrators to improve achievement for English language learners. In three predominantly Hispanic middle schools in south Texas, CAPE improved reading and mathematics scores for all students, but particularly for English language learners and at-risk students. Administrator commitment was crucial to program success. (Contains 28 references.) (TD)
