A Tale of Differences: Comparing the Traditions, Perspectives, and Educational Goals of Critical Reading and Critical Literacy.
Cervetti, Gina; Pardales, Michael J.; Damico, James S.
Reading Online, v4 n9 Apr 2001
Examines the assumptions that underlie critical reading and critical literacy. Argues that there are fundamental philosophical distinctions between liberal-humanist critical reading and critical literacy, and demonstrates why educators need to acknowledge and understand these differences. Suggests that practices associated with critical literacy are often inappropriately adopted by individuals who are committed to liberal-humanist forms of critical reading. (RS)
