What Can Department of Defense Schools Teach Us about School Reform?
Kingston, Thomas S.
Journal of Education, v183 n1 p58-67 2002
Research shows that if the Department of Defense (DoD) school system was ranked among the 50 states, its 8th grade achievement scores would put it among the leaders, with ethnic minority students in DoD schools outscoring their counterparts nationally (though still performing lower than their white counterparts). Discusses what public schools can learn from DoD school experiences (e.g., smaller schools and adequate funding). (SM)
