The Interaction of Ambient Frequency and Feature Complexity in the Diphthong Errors of Children with Phonological Disorders.
Stokes, Stephanie F.; Lau, Jessica Tse-Kay; Ciocca, Valter
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, v45 n6 p1188-1201 Dec 2002
This study examined the interaction of ambient frequency and feature complexity in the diphthong errors produced by 13 Cantonese-speaking children with phonological disorders. Perceptual analysis of 611 diphthongs identified those most frequently and least frequently in error. Suggested treatment guidelines include consideration of three factors: ambient frequency, feature complexity, and error patterns. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
