"When, How, and Who Do I Ask for Help?": Novices' Perceptions of Problems and Assistance.
Hertzog, Hillary S.
Teacher Education Quarterly, v29 n3 p25-41 Sum 2002
Investigated how alternative permit (AP) novices engaged in problem solving about teaching problems. Twelve urban AP novices in their first year of teaching completed periodic interviews and questionnaires over 15 weeks and were observed teaching six times. Problems identified included classroom management, behavior management, and curriculum. Respondents sought assistance for problems they considered significant and perceived two types of available help: assigned (mentors) and teacher- selected. (SM)
