Racial Socialization Messages and the Quality of Mother/Child Interactions in African American Families.
Frabutt, James M.; Walker, Angela M.; MacKinnon-Lewis, Carol
Journal of Early Adolescence, v22 n2 p200-17 May 2002
Examined linkage between mothers' provision of racial socialization messages and communication, warmth, negativity, child monitoring, and involvement. Found that mothers with moderate frequency of proactive responses to discrimination items exhibited the most positivity, were most involved, monitored their child's activities the most, and displayed the lowest levels of dyadic negativity.
