Describes the development of an integrated learning center for incoming freshmen at the University of Arizona, Tucson. Discusses overcoming barriers to learning; the use of technology, including acoustic design for lecture halls, videotaped classes, video projection units, and wired classrooms for Internet access; tutoring programs; and peer leadership.
