Resisting from the Margins: The Coping Strategies of Black Women and Other Women of Color Faculty Members at a Research University.
Thomas, Gloria D.; Hollenshead, Carol
Journal of Negro Education, v70 n3 p166-75 Sum 2001
Investigated how academic women of color coped, professionally and personally, given their marginalized position and how they used their position as a place of resistance to racism, sexism, and classism. Surveys and interviews with women faculty of color indicated that their resistance strategies addressed organizational barriers, institutional climate, lack of respect from colleagues, unwritten rules governing university life, and mentoring.
