Becoming "One Who Treats": A Case Study of a Luo Healer and Her Grandson in Western Kenya.
Prince, Ruth; Geissler, P. Wenzel
Anthropology & Education Quarterly, v32 n4 p447-71 Dec 2001
This case study of a Luo healer and her grandson shows how learning to heal is embedded in the close relationship of reciprocity and care between grandmother and grandchild. Through shared daily life, the child develops social sense, respect, compassion, and practical skills. Learning to heal is embedded in everyday practice and social relations and is a moral and emotional process. (SM)
