Listening to Voices of Practicing Teachers To Examine the Effectiveness of a Teacher Education Program.
Whitney, Linda; Golez, Felipe; Nagel, Greta; Nieto, Consuelo
Action in Teacher Education, v23 n4 p69-76 Win 2002
Interviewed elementary teacher preparation program graduates within urban schools serving poor, diverse students. Overall, fieldwork contextualized in real classrooms significantly influenced what teachers carried from preservice programs to classrooms. Respondents suggested bolstering classroom management and parent communication components of teacher education. Master teachers influenced student teachers more than university supervisors. Graduates lacked clarity regarding the influence of theory on practice. (SM)
