Treatment of Automatically Reinforced Object Mouthing with Noncontingent Reinforcement and Response Blocking: Experimental Analysis and Social Validation.
Carr, James E.; Dozier, Claudia L.; Patel, Meeta R.; Adams, Amanda Nicolson; Martin, Nichelle
Research in Developmental Disabilities, v23 n1 p37-44 Jan-Feb 2002
A brief functional analysis indicated that the object mouthing of a young girl diagnosed with autism was maintained independent of social consequences. Separate and combined effects of response blocking and non-contingent reinforcement were then evaluated as treatments. Although both interventions were unsuccessful when implemented separately, combining them resulted in generalized reductions that were socially valid. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
