Ethnic Differences in Grade Trajectories during the Transition to Junior High.

Study seeks to identify trajectories of grade changes in a sample of adolescents following their entrance into junior high and to examine differences in these trajectories by gender and ethnicity. Three patterns were observed: "sliders," (characteristic of Anglos), "steadies," (characteristic of Blacks), and "rebounders," (characteristic of Hispanics). Reasons for such differences and their implications for schools and families are discussed. (Contains 57 references and 4 tables.) (GCP)
