Diverging Academic Paths in Rural Caribbean Village Children: Predicting Secondary School Entrance from the St. Vincent Child Study.

Study analyzed longitudinal data from village children (N=66) to identify accurate and early predictors of passing the Common Entrance Examination for secondary school admission. Determined that children's achievement, academic and behavior problems, and cognitive abilities as early as age 8 can predict later examination success or failure. Suggests interventions to reduce the rural and urban gap in secondary school admissions. (JDM)
