What Constitutes Effective ESL Instruction: Common Themes from the Voices of the Students.
Berlin, Lawrence N.
Journal of Intensive English Studies, v14 p1-21 Fall-Win 2001-2002
To redress the perceived gap in the definition of effective language instruction, students at an intensive English program were asked to participate in interviews in which they were asked to respond to questions about classes they were attending and they defined as effective. A discourse analysis was performed on the transcripts of several interviews. Describes a model for effective instruction in multicultural, university-level English-as-a-Second-Language classrooms.
