Neighborhood Effects on Sense of School Coherence and Educational Behavior in Students at Risk of School Failure.
Nash, James K.
Children & Schools, v24 n2 p73-89 Apr 2002
Study investigated the relationships among neighborhood informal social control, crime, and negative peer culture; students' sense of school coherence; and students' educational behavior. Neighborhood crime had a substantial negative effect on their educational behavior that was not mediated by a sense of school coherence. Discusses implications for developing and implementing intervention strategies that target neighborhood-level factors. (JDM)
