Factors Influencing the Retention of Secondary Business Teachers.

Of 163 secondary business teachers who began between 1996-2000, 23 were no longer teaching. Differences between stayers and leavers included positive teaching experience, positive student interaction, adequate time, and pleasant working conditions. Influences on leavers included salary (57%) and lack of advancement (30%). Those without strong initial commitment to teaching were less likely to stay. (Contains 32 references.) (SK)
