Foreign Language Reading Comprehension Test: L1 versus L2 in Open-Ended Questions.
Godev, Concepcion B.; Martinez-Gibson, Elizabeth A.; Toris, Carol C. M.
Foreign Language Annals, v35 n2 p202-21 Mar-Apr 2002
Discusses using students' native language (L1) versus second language in testing instruments for reading comprehension in the second language (L2) classroom. Students of college-level Spanish were tested under different conditions involving combinations of the L1 and L2. Suggests using open-ended reading comprehension tests if some questions are phrased in the L1, and test takers are given the opportunity to respond in the L1. (Author/VWL)
