Of Vowel Shifts Great, Small, Long, and Short.
Schendl, Herbert; Ritt, Nikolaus
Language Sciences, v24 n3-4 p409-21 May-Jul 2002

The shift, referred to as short vowel shift, is as coherent and systematic as the comparably well established great vowel shift. (Author/VWL)
