Examined how assisted housing units with residents belonging to different racial/ethnic groups changed housing quality in adjacent structures. Data from two Housing Condition Evaluation surveys in Phoenix, Arizona (1980 and 1994) suggested small, significant negative impacts on housing quality within a 0.5-mile range of assisted housing units but positive impacts if the household was female-headed.
