Race from the Inside: An Emerging Heterogeneous Race Model.
Celious, Aaron; Oyserman, Daphna
Journal of Social Issues, v57 n1 p149-65 2001
Recommends moving beyond simple racial dichotomies to unpack differences among African Americans in order to better understand the experience of being Black in America, arguing that African Americans do not experience race homogeneously but distinguish between and among themselves on such features as socioeconomic status, gender, and skin tone. Proposes a heterogeneous racial group perspective for studying race. (SM)
