Real versus Imagined Gender Harassment.
Woodzicka, Julie A.; LaFrance, Marianne
Journal of Social Issues, v57 n1 p15-30 2001
Investigated women's immediate reactions to sexually harassing questions encountered during realistic job interviews, comparing behavioral and emotional responses to those in imagined harassing interviews. Interviewees who were actually harassed reacted very differently from those who only imagined their responses. Imagined victims anticipated feeling angry, but actual targets reported fear. Anticipated behavior did not mesh with actual behavior. (SM)
