Differences in the Communication of Affect: Members of the Same Race versus Members of a Different Race.
Weathers, Monica D.; Frank, Elaine M.; Spell, Leigh Ann
Journal of Black Psychology, v28 n1 p66-77 Feb 2002
Examined African Americans' and Whites' ability to recognize facial expressions and vocal prosody of predominantly white stimuli at three age groups (children, young adults, and adults). Race was a significant factor in interpreting facial expressions and prosodic features. Individuals from specific ethnic groups were most accurate in decoding emotional cues from stimulus-containing individuals within the same ethnic group. (SM)
