National Policies on Pregnancy in Education Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Case of Botswana.
Chilisa, Bagele
Gender and Education, v14 n1 p21-35 Mar 2002
Critiques pregnancy policies in sub-Saharan Africa's education systems, examining expulsion, reentry, and continuation policies for students who become pregnant. Argues that both expulsion policies and reentry policies violate students' rights to education, suggesting that continuation policies provide the most opportunity for gender equity. Notes the close relationship between a country's sociopolitical environment and the type of policy adopted. (SM)
