Multiple Ethnic, Racial, and Cultural Identities in Action: From Marginality to a New Cultural Capital in Modern Society.
Trueba, Henry T.
Journal of Latinos and Education, v1 n1 p7-28 2002
Immigrants possess unique skills and flexibility to manage different identities that coexist in different contexts simultaneously. Latino immigrants were once considered handicapped by their experiences of oppression and low socioeconomic status, lacking cultural capital. As demographics change, ability to function in a diverse, multilingual society and general resiliency in the face of hardships comprise a new cultural capital. (Contains 60 references.) (SM)
