Science for Active Citizenship: The Challenge for Lifelong Learning.

Debates over the social purpose model of adult education have largely ignored science. A social citizenship dimension is crucial for adults' understanding of scientific research and issues. The example of a British ecology project illustrates that forcing all adult education into a credit system will hinder the goal of education for active citizenship. (Contains 31 references.) (SK)
