Influence of Culture-Related Experiences and Sociodemographic Risk Factors on Cognitive Readiness among Preschoolers.
Beasley, T. Mark
Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, v7 n1 p3-23 2002
Used data from the 1993 National Household Education Survey to analyze factors influencing cognitive readiness among 1,710 preschoolers. Results indicated that for high-risk children, culture-related activities were associated with higher cognitive development levels and lower variability in cognitive readiness. Parental involvement was more likely to enhance children's cognitive development when the activities consisted of culture-related experiences. (SM)
