Norasakkunkit, Vinai; Kalick, S. Michael
Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, v33 n1 p56-70 Jan 2002
Examined the appropriateness of several common distress measures for individuals with Asian cultural ideals. European- and Asian-American college students completed various instruments and provided demographic data. Overall, certain common distress measures may equate moderately self-enhancing goals of an independent self with mental health, whereas responses reflecting culturally prescribed goals of an interdependent self may be equated with emotional distress.
