Self-Enhancement and Attitudes toward High Achievers: A Bicultural View of the Independent and Interdependent Self.
Harrington, Leigh; Liu, James H.
Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, v33 n1 p37-55 Jan 2002
Assessed individualism, collectivism, self-enhancement, and attitudes toward high achievers in New Zealand European and Maori college students. Maori students had a stronger collective orientation and higher self-esteem. Both groups displayed high self-enhancement levels and favored rewarding high achievers. Self-enhancement and attitudes toward high achievers correlated with self-esteem. There were subtle differences between the groups, anchored by large amounts of similarity. (SM)
