Language-Universal Constraints on Speech Segmentation.
Norris, Dennis; McQueen, James M.; Cutler, Anne; Butterfield, Sally; Kearns, Ruth
Language and Cognitive Processes, v16 n5-6 p637-60 Oct-Dec 2001
Two word-spotting experiments are reported that examine whether the Possible-Word Constraint (PWC) is a language-specific or language-universal strategy for the segmentation of continuous speech. Examined cases where the residue was either a CVC syllable with a Schwa or a CV syllable with a lax vowel. Showed that the word-spotting results reflected the relative segmentation difficulty of the words in different contexts. (Author/VWL)
