Evaluation of Research for Usable Knowledge in Behavioral Disorders: Ignoring the Irrelevant, Considering the Germane.
Mostert, Mark P.; Kavale, Kenneth
Behavioral Disorders, v27 n1 p53-58 Nov 2001
This article urges a more scientific approach to evaluation of effective practices in the field of emotional or behavioral disorders. It suggests that the rigor of analytical narrative synthesis and meta-analyses are more useful than qualitative approaches. The evaluative power of these two approaches is illustrated by examples related to facilitated communication, social skills instruction, and diet modification. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
