Cultural Orientations in the United States: (Re)Examining Differences among Ethnic Groups.
Coon, Heather M.; Kemmelmeier, Markus
Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, v32 n3 p348-64 May 2001
Investigated differences in individualism and collectivism between the U.S.'s four largest ethnic groups (African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and European Americans). Surveys of Michigan college students indicated that Asian Americans and African Americans but not Hispanic Americans scored higher in collectivism that did European Americans. African Americans exhibited the highest levels of individualism. (SM)
