Intercultural Transmission of Collectivism and Achievement Values in Two Acculturation Contexts: The Case of Turkish Families in Germany and Turkish and Moroccan Families in the Netherlands.
Phalet, Karen; Schonpflug, Ute
Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, v32 n2 p186-201 Mar 2001
Examined the impact of immigrant parents' goals and acculturation contexts on family value transmission, surveying Turkish parent-child dyads in the Netherlands. Across cultures, parents' collectivism values were transmitted. Parental goals mediated value transmission. Transmission was significant after controlling for gender and education. Transmission was more intense in Germany and in Turkish families. (SM)
