Metabolic Syndromes Associated with HIV: Mitigating the Side Effects of Drug Therapy.
Stringer, William W.; Sattler, Fred R.
Physician and Sportsmedicine, v29 n12 p19-26 Dec 2001
HIV infection and highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) are associated with such metabolic disorders as AIDS wasting syndrome, metabolic dysregulation, and abnormalities of serum lipids. Adjunctive therapies (e.g., diet and antilipid therapy); risk factor modification (e.g., smoking cessation and blood pressure control); aerobic exercise; and anabolic treatments are useful in mitigating the effects of HIV infection and HAART.
