The Fragility of Community and Function: A Snapshot of an Alternative School in Crisis.
Schutz, Aaron; Harris, Ian M.
Encounter: Education for Meaning and Social Justice, v14 n1 p39-53 Spr 2001
A case study of an alternative middle school for at-risk students indicates that small, under-resourced schools cannot be expected to successfully serve students who have been rejected by the mainstream school system. Small alternative schools providing small class sizes and extra support for students require more, not less, funding. Commitment and caring are not enough. (Contains 26 references.) (TD)
