Describes analysis of quality of North American doctoral programs in developmental sciences, such as developmental psychology and human development. Found that the faculty associated with the top one-third of programs were two to three times as active as the faculty associated with the lower two-thirds of programs. This difference held true in the areas of publishing, grants, and editorial work. (Author/SD)
