The Neural Representation of Language in Users of American Sign Language.
Corina, David P.; McBurney, Susan L.
Journal of Communication Disorders, v34 n6 p455-71 Nov-Dec 2001
Studies of American Sign language including functional magnetic resonance imaging of deaf signers confirms the importance of left hemisphere structures in signed language, but also the contributions of right hemisphere regions to sign language processing. A case study involving cortical stimulation mapping in a deaf signer provides evidence for the specialization of Broca's area in sign language production. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
