Bandwidth Effects on Children's Perception of the Inflectional Morpheme /s/: Acoustical Measurements, Auditory Detection, and Clarity Rating.
Kortekaas, Reinier W. L.; Stelmachowicz, Patricia G.
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, v43 n3 p645-60 Jun 2000
This study examined developmental effects in auditory perception of word-final /s/ in inflectional morpheme contexts as a function of high-frequency (HF) bandwidth with normal hearing 5-, 7-, 10-year-olds and adults. The higher detection thresholds and larger clarity rating variances for the youngest participants support the use of extended high-frequency bandwidths for young children with impaired hearing.
