Beyond Enmeshment: Evidence for the Independence of Intrusiveness and Closeness-Caregiving in Married Couples.
Werner, Paul D.; Green, Robert-Jay; Greenberg, Joseph; Browne, Timothy L.; McKenna, Tricia E.
Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, v27 n4 p459-72 Oct 2001
In this study, the model of two independent dimensions of family connectedness, closeness-caregiving, and intrusiveness, was tested by assessing spouses from 264 couples, using the California Inventory for Family Assessment (CIFA). As predicted, factor analyses distinguished dimensions of intrusiveness (blurring of boundaries) from closeness-caregiving (such as warmth and nurturance). (BF)
