Gender and Leadership in South African Educational Administration.

Examines the phenomenon of South Africa's simultaneous transformation of its educational administration and the consolidation of earlier patriarchal forms of control. Using data from interviews with key department of education administrators, the article suggests that these developments can be explained by particular constructs and practices of leadership in educational administration that associate leadership and competence with masculinity, rationality, and whiteness.
