The Effects of Negative Managerial Feedback on Student Motivation: Implications for Gender Differences in Teacher-Student Relations.
Morgan, Carolyn
Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, v44 n9-10 p513-35 May 2001
Investigated the impact of negative teacher feedback on elementary students' motivation. Fifth and sixth graders were randomly assigned to receive one of five feedback patterns after an activity. All students received positive competence-related feedback at the end of the activity. Relative to the other conditions, typical male feedback decreased student's activity interest, perceived competence, and liking for the teacher. (SM)
