Models of Institutional Resource Allocation: Mission, Market, and Gender.
Volk, Cindy S.; Slaughter, Sheila; Thomas, Scott L.
Journal of Higher Education, v72 n4 p387-413 Jul-Aug 2001
Tested two major models of higher education resource allocation to determine which best explained allocation of state dollars. Using multiple regression, demonstrated that departments characterized by male, full-time faculty; graduate degrees; and grants and contracts tend to be given more resources than those characterized by female faculty, high (female) adjunct use, and undergraduate student credit hours.
