Taking Our Seats: The Consequences of Positioning in Reading Assessments.
Enciso, Patricia E.
Theory into Practice, v40 n3 p166-74 Sum 2001
Considers the positioning of middle grade readers in standardized reading assessments, analyzing questions and tasks they encounter as they read and respond to standardized test items. Reading tests require children to show that they have understood and accepted a particular kind of positioning as readers. This analysis is contrasted with metaphors for readers' positionings outlined by educator Walter Dean Myers. (SM)
