Mentoring by Prospective Teachers as Preparation for Working with Children at Risk.

Interviewed student teachers who mentored children at risk as part of their preservice training. Results indicated that the mentors benefitted from the experience by gaining enhanced understanding of diverse, at-risk children and improved interpersonal and teaching skills. Relationships that developed between mentors and children varied greatly and were central to the mentoring experience. (SM)
