The Management of Nature and Socialization to Outdoor Life.
Dahle, Borge
Pathways: The Ontario Journal of Outdoor Education, v13 n3 p12-14 Sum 2001
A Norwegian study of socialization into friluftsliv (traditional open-air life) found that factors affecting lifelong interest included parents' and friends' relationship to friluftsliv, proximity to suitable areas, outdoor hobbies, access to a summer home, and owning a dog. Educational experiences outdoors were collectively about as influential as owning a dog. Active involvement in friluftsliv was related to environmental interests. (TD)
